Frequently Asked Questions / FAQ

The Loosbühelalm is a two-season establishment. This means we are open from around Mother’s Day (May) until around 2 November, and then again in winter until around mid-March. You can find the exact opening times here on our website.

The Loosbühelalm is a mountain inn at 1,769 metres, in a secluded location at the end of the Ellmautal in the Großarltal.

What is perhaps the biggest difference between an alpine hut and an inn? We are allowed to serve you hot food. From 11 am to 7 pm, we treat our guests to hot, traditional Austrian delicacies, made almost exclusively from our own farm produce. From Schnitzel, Kaspressknödel, Käsespätzle to hearty Kaiserschmarrn or strudel.

Yes, there is an official mountain bike trail leading right up to us. It ends at our hut.

The Loosbühelalm is very centrally located for hiking. The Salzburger Almenweg passes right by the hut and the Tauernhöhenweg on the ridge (20 minutes from us to the ridge). We are therefore a very popular stopover.

We have a special spot with a stunning view over the Ellmautaltal in the Großarltaltal. The sun sets directly opposite. The evening scene is beautiful and different every day. We therefore recommend admiring the sunset from our terrace, perhaps with a glass of wine. The sun stays out the longest until 9.20 pm, though this depends heavily on the time of year.

We would actually say it’s for everyone.

In summer, our youngest guests can enjoy a large children’s playground with petting animals, and in winter there’s plenty of snow for snowball fights or making snow angels.

Parents and nature lovers can enjoy a break from everyday life on our large sun terrace or in our restaurant.

And older people and those with disabilities also have the opportunity to visit us. In summer, you can drive up in your own car (€ 5,00 in coins is required for the barrier), and in winter we offer a shuttle service every hour on the hour with advance booking!

Yes, we’re delighted to welcome even our youngest guests. There’s a large playground for the children, petting animals in summer, a children’s menu, and a selection of toys to ensure they never get bored.

Our rooms are also family-friendly. We have multi-bed rooms where your family can have its own room. We have cots available on request.

Our natural toboggan run is only open on the days when the Loosbühelalm is open. Sufficient snow is required. You can always find the latest information on this on the homepage of our website.

You can hire toboggans on site (€ 5,00 per toboggan).

During the summer, it is possible to drive your own car right up to the alpine hut.

You will need € 5,00 in coins to open the barrier. In winter, you can only drive your own car as far as the Grundlehen car park. From there, you can walk to us, take our in-house shuttle (only every hour on the hour and ONLY with advance booking) or take the taxi 600 (+43/(0) 6414/600).

The quickest way to reach us is directly from the Grundlehen car park. However, we also recommend a hut-to-hut tour along the Salzburger Almenweg, where we are situated right on the route. The nearest peaks are the Loosbichl or the Gründegg. Not far from the Gründegg, you can visit the Trögseen lakes. If the weather is perfect, head up to the ridge, where a magnificent view of the various mountain ranges awaits. We are also the perfect starting point for mountain air lovers and long-distance hikers heading to the Draugstein and Tappenkarsee.
